Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino

Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino bottle image

Wine Description

Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino is made from a meticulous vine selection in the best lots of the Catena family’s estate vineyards. These Zapata vines are carefully hand tended and produce extremely low yields. The grapes are micro-fermented in new French oak barriques and the wine is then aged for 24 months in new French oak. This wine is made in very limited quantities.

Acclaim
“They blend two plots from two of their flagship vineyards, Adrianna in Gualtallary and Nicasia in Altamira to create the 2013 Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino. It is a classical Malbec with some creamy, smoky notes, juicy, polished and fresh but with enough power to stand up to food.”
— Luis Gutierrez, Dec 2016
“The 2013 Argentino Malbec is sourced from the Adrianna Vineyard and the Nicasia Vineyard, both set on sandy soils that range from 3500 to 4700 feet. The wine was aged for 24 months in new French oak prior to bottling and then received an additional 12 plus months of bottle aging. This glass-staining Malbec begins with a bright bouquet of mocha, sandalwood, creosote, and creme de cassis with blueberry compote. The mouthfeel is rather voluptuous. Slightly tannic, the wine evolves into displaying dark fruit flavors that connect with tar, graphite, and Turkish coffee. Round and generous, the silky texture glides through the mid-palate. This gorgeous wine will age well for the next two decades. If enjoying in its youth, be sure to give this at least a two hour decant prior to enjoying.”
