Tramin Unterebner

Unterebner Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC bottle image

Wine Description

This is not your typical Pinot Grigio. Made using hand-selected grapes from the Unterebner vineyard in Alto Adige, the wine is refined in large oak casks. After seven to eight months of lees contact, the resulting wine is rich, refined, and elegant.

Acclaim
“A wonderfully layered white with sliced apple, mango, papaya and lemons. Some flint too. Full body, with bright acidity and a lively finish. This is a wine that touches so many of your tasting buds. Goes on for minutes. One of the best pinot grigios in Italy.”
— James Suckling, Jul 2014
“Bright golden yellow. This is much deeper in hue than the 2015 and 2014 wines. Rich, complex nose hints at pear, toast, tobacco, elderflower and smoke. Rich, dense and suave, with noble tannins providing support to the ripe, almost opulent orchard and stone fruit flavors, complicated by sweet spices and a touch of jasmine. Finishes long and very smooth, with wonderfully integrated oak. This is a voluptuous Pinot Grigio that shows a judicious use of oak to full effect (about 75% of the wine spent roughly 6-7 months in used large barrels and about 25% in new oak barriques and tonneaux).”
— Ian D’Agata, Mar 2017
