Poggio ai Merli di Castellare

Poggio ai Merli Merlot Toscana IGT bottle image

Wine Description

Poggio ai Merli is made entirely from Merlot, and named after the single vineyard from which it is produced. Located almost 1,200 feet above sea level in the heart of Chianti Classico, the grapes reflect the terroir-driven characteristics of Tuscany's most famous viticultural area. This wine embodies Castellare's innovation by producing international varietals in an area world-famous for Sangiovese.

Acclaim
“A rich, bombastic wine, the 2009 Poggio ai Merli has tons of Merlot personality, but the acidity and structure is pure Chianti Classico. Sage, rosemary, menthol and licorice add complexity as this muscular, virile wine opens up in the glass. As is to be expected with Merlot, the Poggio ai Merli clearly reflects the personality of the hot year. With the passage of time, though, Castellare's Merlot has become increasingly Tuscanized. This is another gorgeous wine from Castellare.”
