Poggio ai Merli di Castellare

Poggio ai Merli Merlot Toscana IGT bottle image

Wine Description

Poggio ai Merli is made entirely from Merlot and named after the single vineyard from which it is produced, located almost 1,200 feet above sea level right in the heart of Chianti Classico. The grapes are harvested in September, then crushed, de-stemmed and macerated in contact with the skins for 28 days. The wine is then aged in barriques for fifteen months followed by an additional ten months in bottle.

Acclaim
Smelling this wine is like entering a spice box: Saffron, cumin, cardamom and cinnamon all put in minute appearances. But the real protagonist is the wood, which still needs a few years to integrate, and the plump chocolate-covered cherries you get in the mouth. It's a thickly extracted wine with tight tannins.
— Wine Enthusiast, Apr 2008
Intense aromas of mint, eucalyptus, dark chocolate and berry follow through to a full-bodied palate, with soft tannins and a medium finish. Merlot.
