Turriga Isola dei Nuraghi IGT bottle image

Wine Description

Over many generations, the Argiolas family has worked diligently to become the leader in Sardinian enology. In many ways, Turriga embodies the fulfillment of this goal. Made from 85% Cannonau, with 5% each of Carignano, Bovale Sardo and Malvasia Nera, all meticulously hand-harvested from the Turriga estate in the countryside of Selegas-Piscina Trigus. This wine is the flagship red of the Argiolas estate.

Acclaim
Bright red with an amber tinge. Red berries, faded flowers and woodsy spices on the refined nose. Juicy and vibrant with lovely clarity and cut to the supple but vibrant mouthfeel. The finish, which features a slightly aromatic note (no doubt a contribution of the Malvasia Nera), hints of cinnamon and cardamom, is long and very refined. This Turriga is made with slightly larger percentages than usual of Cannonau and Malvasia Nera. It’s an outstanding wine made in a vintage characterized by a relatively luke warm and not too rainy spring, a dry summer that led to perfect ripening of the grapes in absence of water stress, and fine fall weather.

The 1988 is delicate, perfumed and wonderfully intact. Though already far along in its tertiary stage, there is enough fruit to provide for another few years of fine drinking. The 1988 is impressive, but it, too, needs to be drunk sooner rather than later. Nevertheless, this is a great showing for the debut vintage of Turriga.
