Castellare I Sodi di S. Niccolò

I Sodi di San Niccolò Toscana IGT bottle image

Wine Description

I Sodi di San Niccolò was created in the early 1980s with the goal of demonstrating that the native grapes could produce a wine with all the power and grace of a Super Tuscan.  The name "I Sodi" refers to land that is difficult to till (grapes must be hand-harvested), and "San Niccolò" is an abandoned church on the Castellare property.  This wine captures the enormous potential of the Sangioveto grape.

Acclaim
The 1982 I Sodi di San Niccolò impresses because it has so much fruit that the wilder notes that are typical of some years such as the 1981 are nicely balanced. Dark red cherries, flowers, licorice, mint and wild flowers are woven into the structured yet generous finish. This is a dazzling showing. The 1982 should drink nicely for at least a few years based on its sheer power.
