Tilia Malbec Syrah

Malbec Syrah bottle image

Wine Description

The Tilia wines are made at Bodegas Esmeralda in the Eastern region of Mendoza. They are made by Alejandro Viggiani, a winemaker and viticulturist in charge of all Catena family vineyards in Eastern Mendoza. As Argentina's signature Malbec continues to rise in popularity, so too does the quality of the wines being produced. Additionally, many winemakers are creating some exciting blends using Malbec like this Malbec-Syrah blend. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the Eastern and Southern regions of Mendoza with an elevation ranging from 1,968 to 3,937 feet above sea level.

Acclaim
“The 2012 Tilia Malbec - Syrah is a 60/40 blend from the eastern part of Mendoza and the Uco Valley. The wine was fermented in cement vats and has nine months of oak staves (they call it “light oak aging”). It is bright cherry-colored, with toasty notes of smoke, bacon and flowers. The medium-bodied palate is round, supple and tasty, with good acidity and length.”
— Luis Gutierrez, Apr 2014
“Bright red-ruby. Cassis, licorice, bitter chocolate and a smoky nuance on the pure but subdued nose, with a hint of cotton candy sweetness. Lush, smooth and classically dry, with subtle dark fruit flavors complicated by a torrefaction quality. Finishes with a firm dusting of ripe tannins, hints of smoke and sour cherry, and good length and grip. A nicely balanced blend with a restrained sweetness. Another excellent value.”
— International Wine Cellar, Apr 2014
