Wine Description

CH by Chocapalha is an homage to the Swiss origins of the Tavares da Silva family. This wine is a pure expression of Touriga Nacional fermented in traditional granite lagares and aged in French oak barriques for 24 months before bottling.

Acclaim
“The owners’ Swiss connections are commemorated in the international initials for Switzerland (CH) on the label, but everything else about this wine is resolutely Portuguese. From its dense tannins and dry core to its bold red fruit, it’s full bodied, rich, ripe and likely to age further.”
— Wine Enthusiast, May 2017
“The 2013 CH is a Touriga Nacional, sourced from the winery's oldest vines (30 years). It was aged in French barriques for 24 months (half new, half used). This late (but current) release comes in at 14% alcohol. This is one of the country's most interesting Tourigas from the more Southern areas of Portugal and one of my favorites. The clones here all come from Dão (in the North), though. This is a fine vintage for it. Elegant, aromatic and beautifully structured, this is tight on the finish, with the fruit well supported and defined by its structure. It is not really fully ready to drink, despite the late release, but it's close. Caressing, refined and silky, this has become my favorite wine from Chocapalha. When it hits the market this year, give it a little more rest if you can. It should age pretty well.”
