Castellare Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

Located in the Chianti Classico commune of Castellina, this Castellare offering is comprised primarily of the local Sangiovese grape, Sangioveto.  Research began in the late 1970s which allowed Castellare to isolate this clone and enabled the winery to make this very unique style of a Tuscan classic.

Acclaim
“The 2010 Chianti Classico is a serious wine. In this vintage, the Chianti Classico boasts gorgeous depth, richness and concentration, all supported by finessed tannins. Dark cherries, plums, spices, tobacco and licorice blossom on the energetic, mineral-infused finish. This is a great showing from a wine that captures the essence of 2010, a fabulous Sangiovese vintage.”
— Wine Advocate, Jun 2012
This bright Chianti Classico offers cherry, forest berry and blue flower notes, backed by touches of wet earth and leather. The palate is smooth and firm, and it has a fresh, almost herbal finish.
