Wine Description

Weingut Stadt Krems was originally founded by the city of Krems in 1452 to support a local hospital for city residents. With over 550 years of history, Weingut Stadt Krems is one of the oldest wine producers in Europe.  Since July 2003, the estate is managed by a young, innovated team directed by Fritz Miesbauer.  The flagships are Riesling and Gruner Veltliner (over 90%).

Acclaim
Medium green-yellow with silver highlights. Attractive stone fruit reminiscent of white vineyard peach mingles with blossom honey, orange zest and mineral notes. Full bodied and juicy with sweet extract and elegant spice. Well balanced with lovely acidity, plenty of finesse and superb length - everything that a truly great, dry Riesling should have.
— Falstaff Ultimate Wine Guide, Jul 2017
“A luscious core of apple and pineapple is tinged with anise and honey in this surprisingly rich, expansive yet animatedly juicy and transparent offering. Glimmers of alkalinity and stoniness, comparable to those exhibited in the corresponding Schieferterrassen bottling, lend an intriguing counterpoint. Suggestions of sweet-saline langoustine savor lead to an impressively sustained finish. Given that fermentation didn’t finish until the end of March (and even then left behind what is by local and estate standards an unusually high half-dozen grams of residual sugar), it’s fortunate that racking from the fine lees and bottling were delayed until well into summer. This represents another 2014 Stadt Krems success, remarkable considering that vintage’s challenges, especially to Riesling, but also given that the corresponding 2013, from one of the most propitious growing seasons for its region in modern memory, is not nearly its equal.”
