Poggio Scalette Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

This is a wine that expresses both the Chianti Classico terroir as well as the Sangiovese grape. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the village of Ruffoli, located in Greve. Harvested at the peak of ripeness in October and fermented in concrete tanks, this wine is one of the finest examples of this classic Italian varietal.

Acclaim
“Made from 100% Sangiovese, this opens with a lovely floral fragrance of violet and iris. Ripe sour cherry dominates the palate accented by toasted notes and black pepper. Even though it’s not complex, the juicy fruit and smooth tannins make this friendly and delicious.”
— Wine Enthusiast, Apr 2014
"Deep, serious black cherry flesh and black current form the foundation on the nose with tobacco, and sandalwood compliments. The palate has solid structure showing blackberry, mineral Earth, some forest floor, and fine grained tannins. Good acidity adds energy and life to balance things out. The lean fruit takes a primary role here, and makes for this approachable."
— Brunello Bob's World of Wine, Nov 2014
