Brand Description

The Tenuta Feudi del Pisciotto rises in the Val di Noto, within the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, in a rural area between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina. The estate is comprised of 187  ha.  in  total, of  which  43  are  planted  to  vine,  and  it’s  located  on  the  edge  of Sughereta  di  Niscemi  Nature  Reserve, just  steps  from  the  sea. It is here a  very  special microclimate gives birth to a wide range of top wines, from the high-quality entry line, Baglio del Sole, to the top line, the Italian Fashion Top Designers Collection, with labels designed  by famous  Italian  fashion  designers.  The  modern  cellar  merges  with  a magnificent  18th  century  baglio which  hosts a  charming  Wine  Relais  for  exclusive holidays dedicated to relaxation and wine tasting.

Location of Vineyard

Situated within the triangle encompassing Piazza Armerina (known for its extraordinary and intact Roman villa), Caltagirone (Sicily’s ceramic capital) and Vittoria (famous for the production of the only Sicilian DOCG wine, the Cerasuolo di Vittoria), Feudi del Pisciotto’s new vineyards (44 hectares planted since 2002) lie at 250 metres above sea level and 5 km directly from the sea. The estate therefore benefits from two climate related moderators: its altitude, where it can take advantage of the sea breezes, and the significant temperature compensator, which is the sea itself. Around the Feudi del Pisciotto estate, which borders the Pisciotto Reserve, rich in cork oaks and hundreds of different wood species, the vineyards were replanted with the main native varieties (from Nero d'Avola to Frappato) and with other international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet, as well as Pinot Noir (the top of the range), Semillon which together with Gewürztraminer is used to produce an exceptional passito wine, based on Giacomo Tachis’ brilliant intuition in tune with that of Alessandro Cellai, who serves as the head winemaker and general manager of the estate (as he also does at the Castellare di Castellina and Rocca di Frassinello estates).

Winemaking Philosophy

In the vineyards, native varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Frappato are protagonists, but  also  international  varietals  like  Merlot,  Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot  Noir (from  which  the grand vin of Feudi del Pisciotto was born) and two other vines unusual to Sicily, Semillon and  Gewürztraminer,  from  which  an  exceptional  Passito  wine  is  produced.  These international “intruders” demonstrate (as Tachis believed) that in Sicily it is possible to successfully cultivate any vine, given applied knowledge and attention to detail. This brave choice gave way to wines of incredible quality and success, as illustrated by the award-winning Nero d’Avola 2015 – a Versace label, included in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list in 2017, therefore proclaiming it one of the 100 best wines in the world.
