Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae

Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae

Wine Description

Mundus Bacillus means 'elegant bacteria' in Latin, and is named in honor of the bacteria that live in the soil in Adrianna Vineyard. Similar to research  that has shown that bacteria living inside and outside the human body may help combat cancer and autoimmune disease, it is thought that bacteria living within the plants' roots may be the key to why vines are able to survive in such stressful, extreme conditions as those found in the arid and cold Adrianna Vineyard.

Acclaim
“Of all the wines in the Vino de Parcela line, this is the one that’s the timidest at first, the one that seems the most austere. But after a while in the glass, it begins to open up and display its qualities. The fruit, which previously seemed absent, is now red and nervy, the texture, much sharper, and the acidity, vibrant. Little by little, the wine seems to build upon itself, gaining in structure and bearing, but always with that tense and vertical character of Gualtallary wines. This is from a selection of vines planted in 1992 on soils with an abundance of calcium carbonate about 1,400 meters above sea level. Made with 50% whole cluster fermentation and 18 months of aging in barrels, this is a wine that will take a decade to show itself.”  (One of the Best Reds of the Year)

“Named after the bacteria that inhabit the Adrianna Vineyard, this brilliant red is the pick of the Catena Malbecs right now. Sourced from Lot 3, on alluvial and calcium carbonate soils, it’s racy, refreshing, detailed and very fine, with lovely precision and balance, some pepper spice from 60% whole bunches, red berry and bramble fruit and a long, nuanced, palate-cleansing finish.”
