Il Poggiale Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

Made from 90% Sangioveto, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Ciliegiolo grown in the Il Poggiale vineyard, located 1,148-1,300 feet above sea level and harvested at extremely low yields (less than 2 tons per acre). After a maceration period of 16-23 days, the wine is transferred to barriques and aged for one to two years prior to bottling.

Acclaim
This is a lovely wine, with round, silky tannins. Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe fruit and a long, flavorful finish. Stylish.
— Wine Spectator, Oct 2007
The single-vineyard 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Il Poggiale possesses outstanding balance and harmony. Perfumed vibrant fruit, new leather, spices and toasted oak flow from this deceptively medium-bodied wine. There is enough freshness to make me think this elegant, refined Chianti will continue to drink well for another decade or so. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
