C & C
Cosecheros y Criadores is a historical term that marked the difference between the producers of wine for quick consumption and bulk trade “cosecheros” (harvesters) and the wineries that, with the development of 'modern Rioja' in the second half of the XIX century, adopted the Bordeaux model of aging and storing wines “criadores”. Cosecheros & Criadores officially opened in 1951. The winery produces multiple “Vino de la Tierra de Castilla” varietal wines under strict quality controls. They work with an aging cellar of 6,000 French and American oak barrels. As part of the Familia Martinez Bujanda group of properties, respect for the environment is a priority. Strict quality control and the goal to produce wines that overdeliver is a tradition.
Location of Vineyard
Selected vineyards located in Castilla La Mancha. Red and white varietals are planted in the most suitable locations on the property.
Winemaking and Viticulture Philosophy
Although the 21st century has heralded modernization and automation in the winemaking process, the mission of the Familia Martínez-Bujanda has always remained true to the original intent of Joaquín Martínez-Bujanda from over a century ago – control of the vineyard is essential to making complex wines. Each generation has sought to best utilize each location, taking into account the altitude, microclimate, soil, and the characteristics unique to each terroir, with the intention of creating wines that capture its essence. They continue to nourish the vineyards with organic matter and employ modern and traditional winemaking techniques to produce the best quality wine possible from each parcel. Cosecheros & Criadores' goal is to produce fresh, versatile, innovative wines of high quality and exceptional value.
