About the Vineyard

"VIGNE VECCHIE" VINEYARD
One of the first plantings on the estate (in 2000), it brings Sangiovese to the Rocca di Frassinello blend. The training system used is a low spurred cordon with a high planting density (about 5,700 plants/ha). The soil is mainly made up of galestro, the excellent drainage properties of which drastically reduce the vigour of the plants and help to improve the quality of production.  The east-west orientation of the rows protects the plants from high daytime temperatures and provides excellent ventilation, while the hillside location favours the build-up of polyphenols in the grapes and perfect aromatic ripening. Manual harvesting of the grapes usually takes place between the first and second weeks of October.

"VIGNA DEGLI EUCALIPTI" VINEYARD
Brings Merlot to the Rocca di Frassinello blend. The training system used is a low spurred cordon with a high planting density (about 5,700 plants/ha), positioned in a valley location protected from prevailing winds and the sun. The soil is rich in clay, skeleton and calcium. The manual harvesting and selection of the grapes usually takes place around mid-September.

"POGGIO ALLA GUARDIA" VINEYARD
Contributes Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The training system used is a low spurred cordon with a high planting density. The rows have a North-South orientation. The position favours exposure to the sun's rays during the afternoon and the perfect ripening of the grapes, eliminating any markedly "green" varietal notes. The soil is sandy-clay with a high percentage of skeleton, and manual harvesting of the grapes usually takes place in the second half of September.
