Guarita da Chocapalha

Guarita da Chocapalha

Guarita da Chocapalha is a tribute to family patriarch, Paulo Taveres da Silva. Like Paulo, Guarita is full of strength, tenacity, and character. Produced only in exceptional vintages, the grapes come from a single plot of old vine Alicante Bouschet. The label shows an image of the sentry house (Guarita in Portuguese), which the Taveres da Silva’s have at their family house.

Wine Production

After selection and de-stemming, the grapes are fermented in lagares with gentle extraction during the entire fermentation process. Aging takes place French oak barrels for 20 months.

Tasting Notes

Very deep and opaque color, with a great density of black fruit and chocolate in the nose, with a rich but very elegant profile. On the palate, this wine shows great volume with a silky texture, complemented by high-quality tannins which create an excellent body and an amazing aging capacity.

Food Pairing

Alicante Bouschet typically creates a more structured wine, so it's best to pair it with equally intense foods. BBQ, smoked meats, roasted pig, lamb, T-bone steak, as well as grilled vegetables are fantastic options when enjoying this wine.

About the Vineyard

Guarita is made from grapes from a very old vineyard of Alicante Bouschet, a plot surrounded by a forest and facing east, providing a very long and smooth ripening cycle. Quinta de Chocapalha has a strong Atlantic influence, which combines a mild and gentle microclimate.
