Podere Forte
Guardiavigna
“The name comes from the rock that used to guard the vines. I mix up – I have to mix up – History and Fable. The Fable of a great Tuscan wine.”
Pasquale Forte
The Cru Guardiavigna is produced from a Grand Cru Soil and precisely from a vineyard named Orniello. It is produced with the highest attention and care in each detail. Guardiavigna name is coming from two words: Guardia = "Gard" and Vigna = "Vineyard": so the Guardiavigna would means "the guardian of the vineyards" due to a small tower in Podere Forte where in the past a guard used to patrol and protect vineyards from grape theives.
Wine Production
VINEYARD: the vineyard is planted with a density of 6.250 - 7.800 vines per hectare, bush-trained vines according to organic and biodynamic practices.
HARVEST: grapes are harvested in 15 kg crates; a careful manual bunch selection and an optical selection of the individual grapes follows.
VINIFICATION AND AGEING: spontaneous fermentation in French oak vats, up to 35 days; ageing in French oak casks and barrique for 18-20 months; 18-24 months of bottle maturation follows.
Tasting Notes
Guardiavigna is a version of perfectly and slowly ripened Cabernet Franc. An intense, deep and vast bouquet. Full bodied, with a very refined tannic structure. A very elegant and endless wine.
Food Pairing
Perfect with complex and structured main courses, slow cooked meat and spicy courses.
