Librandi Duca San Felice

Duca San Felice Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore Riserva DOC bottle image

Wine Description

Duca San Felice is the name of the oldest vineyard owned by the Librandi family and the last one planted by Raffaele Librandi, the father of Antonio and Nicodemo. This vineyard is situated in the heart of the Ponta territory, which is considered one of the oldest and most important crus of the classic Cirò area. Made entirely from Gaglioppo, a key indigenous variety that is thought to have been introduced from Greece to Southern Italy approximately around the same time as the Aglianico vine.

Acclaim
“Dark red. Vibrant aromas of red fruits, licorice and minerals. Supple and much sweeter than usual, with brisk acidity framing the ripe red fruit and licorice flavors. For such a fresh wine, this boasts impressive creamy texture and breadth. Finishes with good balance, lift and length. This is the fruitiest Duca San Felice I ever recall tasting, something not altogether easy to achieve with the gaglioppo grape.”
— International Wine Cellar, Apr 2011
Dark wild cherries, herbs, spices and licorice are just some of the nuances that flow from this mid-weight red. The Duca San Felice is made from Gaglioppo, an indigenous grape that continues to impress for its unique personality.
