Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso

Bolgheri Rosso bottle image

Wine Description

Grattamacco was founded in 1977 and was the second winery of the Bolgheri appellation, following Sassicaia. Grattamacco has lead the region in environmentally responsible farming, and was the first to use an Alberello or head-pruned method in Bolgheri. The winery lies on a rise between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, with a panoramic view of the Tuscan coast. The Grattamacco vineyards are located at about 330 ft. above sea level, in a wonderfully protected plot that spans over one of Bolgheri's only two hills, and is surrounded by other internationally renowned Bolgheri properties.

The property has been part of the ColleMassari Group since 2002.

Acclaim
“A dense and powerful young wine with ripe tannins. Full-bodied, juicy and rich. Striking structure and fruit.”  (95-96 points)
— James Suckling, Nov 2019
“The 2018 Bolgheri Rosso is an organic blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 6% Sangiovese and 4% Petit Verdot aged in oak for a brief eight months. Production is an ample 80,000 bottles. This lower-end wine shows more bulk and darkness compared to some of the higher-end Bolgheri Superiore expressions from this producer. However, this wine clearly offers a more immediate and accessible personality with dark cherry, blackberry and more primary intensity. Soft tannins round off the palate. This vintage required extra attention during fruit selection.”
