Wine Description

Elegant and classic Pinot Noir that fits the name "Grandmother".  Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine.

Acclaim
“Dr. Laura Catena chose high-altitude vineyards planted two decades ago in Tupungato, Uco Valley for this flavorful Pinot Noir. The nose displays cinnamon, vanilla beean and a touch of aniseed. Fine tannins and balancing acidity provide a good frame for notes of black tea, bay leaf, ripe plum and wild cherries, with a touch of salt and oak spices.” – (Hidden Gem) — Wine Enthusiast, Mar 2024
“Aromas of dried berries, currants, dried lemon zest, nutmeg, tobacco and earth. Cherries, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, tight-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Intensely flavorful with plenty of dark spice and a juicy finish. Beautiful, linear and bright character.”– (#21 of 100)
— James Suckling, Dec 2021

About the Vineyard

Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley.  The vineyard is old and planted with Dijon Clones in 1993.  The Grand Mère parcel gets more sun than the Grand Pere block, with generous and silky tannins. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines.  Yields are extrememly low in both sites due to the age of the vineyard.
