Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard White Stones

Catena Zapata White Stones Chardonnay bottle image

Wine Description

For four generations, the Catena family has cultivated vines at the foot of the Andes, in Mendoza, Argentina. In order to produce wines that could compete with the best in the world, Nicolas Catena was able to identify the best lots and rows within the family vineyards. The grapes for Chardonnay White Stones come from a select group of 27 rows planted on the lot I Vineyard "Adrianna". The term "White stones" refers to the composition of said rows of soil, with white oval stones covered by gravel. The Vineyard "Adrianna" is planted at an altitude of almost 1,500 meters above sea level, in the district of Gualtallary in Tupungato. The stony soil prevents deep root growth, providing optimum drainage. These, very poor in organic matter, soil contribute to support vines permanent stress conditions. Cold Mountain nochas facilitate a slow maturation process, with optimum retention levels of acidity and / performance has naturally low.

Acclaim
“After a bit of a bumpy ride in previous vintages, the 2015 White Stones Chardonnay comes back as a phenomenal white with effervescent acidity that makes you salivate and makes the wine extremely long, providing a sensation of freshness and salty minerality. It's austere, serious and a little closed, with subtle aromas and not much fruit, as it's more about stones than grapes (pun intended!). The palate reveals a straight, vertical and laser-cut white, with a backbone of acidity that lifts it up and makes it very long. It finishes with salty flavors that linger on your palate for a very long time.”
— Wine Advocate, Jun 2018
“A dense and layered white with sliced cooked apple, mango and hints of dried lemon. Exotic undertones. Full body, tight and focused with a minerality and precision.”
— James Suckling, Mar 2018
