“Bright red with an amber rim. Delicate dried redcurrant, licorice, minerals and faded violet on the enticing nose. Still juicy and multifaceted at almost 35 years of age, with harmonious acidity providing clarity and cut to the red fruit, licorice, and tar flavors that are lifted by a bright mineral underpinning. Lovely balance and smooth tannins on the long, suave finish. This is another Rosso del Conte that has aged much better than I would have expected.”

"Impressive, concentrated and savory nose but still very compact. With air showing iron and orange. Full ripe, sweet fruit attack and lots of acidity backed up by real concentration. Has lots of energy and bite. Lots of grainy tannin and long and yet compact. Big big tannins!” (17.5 points out of 20)
Zenato - Vinous
“The product a cold year, the 1983 Amarone Classico has aged beautifully. Dried cherries, tobacco and licorice waft from the glass. The 1983 Riserva is now fully mature, even if some elements of tension from the cool vintage are present, especially on the finish. I don’t see much likelihood of further development at this point. The 1983 is a touch compact and clamped down on the finish, but not enough to materially detract from what is otherwise an absolutely delicious wine.”
The 1983 I Sodi di San Niccolò is a big, intense wine. It doesn’t have the delineation, finesse or structure of some of the other wines in this lineup of the same era, rather it is the generosity and roundness of the fruit that are most impressive. This is another great showing from a long-forgotten year.
The estate's 1983 Taurasi is soft and fully evolved. Truffles, leather, licorice, earthiness and dark fruit are some of the scents that emerge from this fully mature, tertiary Taurasi. The 1983 retains surprising richness, but ultimately the wilder side of Aglianico dominates the balance.
