“Dark ruby in the glass, this wine smells of raisins dipped in chocolate. In the mouth rich chocolate and raisin flavors mix with cassis and wet earth, leather and black cherry as voluminous velvety tannins caress the sides of the mouth. Nice balance despite its richness.”(9/9.5 out of 10 points)
“The 2001 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato is gorgeous. Cedar, leather, exotic spices, brown sugar and plums are some of the many notes that are woven together in this silky, supple Amarone. Fine tannins frame the fruit through to a finish laced with exotic, highly expressive aromatics. The 2001 is drinking beautifully and will continue to deliver considerable pleasure over the next decade or so.”
The estate's 2001 Amarone is simply fabulous. Layers of floral, mineral-infused dark fruit emerge from the glass as the wine opens up. This is an impeccable, brilliant wine that beautifully reconciles elements of ripeness and freshness in a full-bodied style that will reward cellaring. The 2001Amarone is gorgeous today, but readers who prefer more tertiary notes will want to wait a few years as the fruit is still quite fresh.
Intense, oak-tinged minerals hit the nose, accompanied by ripe plum and berry and hints of flowers. Full-bodied and chewy, with big, velvety tannins and fresh acidity that enhances the fruit flavors, leading to a long, well-balanced finish.
A superclean, juicy Amarone, with concentrated dried black fruit and a well-concealed, smooth oak note. Full-bodied, with fine tannins that give the palate an elegant poise and prolong the fruity finish. Classy and refined, with a long finish.
