“The 2007 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Wachstum Bodenstein displays a deep golden color and a deep, rich and aromatic but pure, flinty, elegant and spicy bouquet, with overripe apricot and orange-zest aromas as well as pancake aromas on the nose. On the palate, this is a rich and powerful but very elegant, silky-textured, flinty, fresh and stimulatingly bitter Veltliner with enormous tension and vitality. This is made in a different style than today, but the finesse, complexity and vitality is still that of the Achleiten. It's a great wine from a great vintage and shows that a great terroir cannot be damaged by winemaking—at least when it's smart and focused on terroir expression; the method may change, but the terroir remains. Tasted in Weissenkirchen/Wachau in September 2019.”

Riesling Wachstum Bodenstein Smaragd
RECOMMENDED FOOD & WINE PAIRING: “The premier wine from the Wachau is crafted by acclaimed Tony Bodenstein in the far reaches of Austria. This Smaragd is made of grapes picked a bit later yielding more mature flavors for a rich developed Riesling. The meaty oiliness of the pork belly along with mild sweetness of the corn bread and the crunchy jicama shines with a sip of this beauty. ‘This was a pairing I was fantasizing over,’ Arnold says about his prep. ‘It’s a classic.’ Although he was briefly thrown off by the blue cheese, the rich meaty Southern-inspired dish is a win-win with this wine.”

Grüner Veltliner Ried Achleiten Stockkultur Smaragd
The Prager name is one of the most famous in the right circles. The Achleiten Stockultur is a superb single-vineyard Gruner Veltliner that is one of greatest wines of the vintage - and perhaps of the whole Wachau region of Austria. Lush and full-bodied but with a decided mineral edge, it has years of life ahead. Recommended.
