17.5 points out of 20“Oily mineral spice but some ripe pear fruit too. Gorgeously intense spicy citrus. After the Nikolaihof Grüner Veltliner Smaragd just tasted, the acidity seems very high. Powerful, intense and driving to a long finish. Great citrus purity but still has some mineral complexity.”
"Site-typical bittersweet floral perfume adds aromatic allure to intimations of white peach and cooling green herbs. A glossy, subtly creamy yet infectiously juicy palate presentation incorporates sweet/saline shrimp-shell reduction. Hints of white currant and crab apple join the white peach, pointing toward the unusual abundance of acidity for a Grüner Veltliner as well as toward the phenolic intensity of tiny-berry concentration. Superbly sustained and with a fascinating interplay of floral, fruity and mouthwatering mineral elements, this will serve as eloquent testimony to its site and cépage for many years."
"Complex nose reveals aromas of Japanese pear, lavender, sweet tobacco and white pepper. Deep, dense and intense, with a delicately creamy texture to the flavors of cantaloupe and woodsmoke. The 2013 Stockkultur is bone-dry but comes across as gently sweet and almost honeyed on the palate. With an alluring finish washed in mineral salts, this is certainly one of the great Grüner Veltliners of the vintage. Stockkultur is a reference to the low bush-trained pruning technique that was widely used prior to the last world war but is now rare. The vines are more than 70 years old and are Toni Bodenstein’s genetic library for the massale selections he uses to replant his vineyards."
“Subtle aromas of yellow apple and acacia blossom complicated by white pepper and caraway seed. With ripe flavors of cantaloupe and lavender, the 2013 Wachstüm Bodenstein is a cool, delicate interpretation of Grüner Veltliner. This finely chiseled, energetic wine finishes long and crisp. Wachstüm means growth in German and refers to the vineyards Toni Bodenstein planted in 1998 in a higher, cooler part of the Achleiten site.”
“Refined bouquet of cantaloupe, hyacinth and white pepper. At once rich and nicely balanced, conveying an almost honeyed texture to its yellow apple flavor, the 2013 Achleiten displays a tender spice character on the palate. With its subtle depth and delicate structure, this elegant Grüner Veltliner is already refreshingly drinkable.”
