Full medium red. Vibrant, expressive scents of cassis, black cherry, licorice and violet. Densely packed and quite firmly built, conveying terrific juicy intensity and a restrained sweetness to its youthful dark fruit flavors. Some peppery acidity gives this very penetrating wine a slight leanness. With its firm vertebral column, this wine still needs time to gain in pliancy. Incidentally, this was the first vintage of the Nicolás Catena Zapata to include some Malbec vinified with whole clusters, and that no doubt explains its peppery element.
Charcoal and ripe berry fruit announce this as a serious, masculine Malbec. The palate answers the bell, delivering tight blackberry and cassis flavors in front of a tannic, sturdy finish. Shows great foundation and potential.
Bright medium ruby. Pure aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, licorice, graphite, minerals, chocolate and coffee. Very suave on entry, then youthful and primary, with highly concentrated, sweet dark berry flavors and lovely inner-mouth perfume. Densely packed but light on its feet, with terrific vinosity. Finishes juicy, sappy and very long, leaving the palate refreshed.
