Review “A perfumed violet nuance complicates dark plum and blueberry syrup on the enticing nose, with red fruit notes emerging with aeration. Dense, rich and suave, with harmonious acidity providing clarity and cut to the very deep red berry and cocoa flavors. Finishes pure and very long, with silky tannins. This develops more of a red berry profile with aeration.”

Bright, dense and suave, with a hint of black pepper complicating flavors of balsamic vinegar and chocolate-covered black fruits. Finishes pure and long, with peppery acidity and a repeating floral quality. This outstanding wine is a dead ringer for some famous new-wave Saint-Emilions.”

Review “Coffee and underbrush aromas complicate redcurrant and sour red cherry on the bright, perfumed nose. Moderately dense and chewy on the palate, with flavors of blackcurrant, red cherry and herbs. Finishes with mounting tannins and moderate length.”

Review “Red cherry, menthol, cedar and violet on the nose. The dark berry and spice flavors come across as a bit raw and tight, but at the same time bright and energetic. Finishes with moderate persistence and firm tannins: I'd drink this over the next few years before it dries out. A bigger wine than the entry-level Chianti Classico, but it lacks that wine's balance.”

Review “Rich, deep and powerful, the 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale possesses superb depth and resonance. Lavender, smoke, plums and spices are all laced together in a Chianti Classico built on an absolutely alluring combination of fruit and structure. This is a great showing from Castellare - but I must warn readers the 2011 Poggiale needs time in the cellar, so patience is critical.”

Review Deep color. Black cherry and licorice are the dominant scents in the bouquet. Upon entry, we taste a delicious wine, albeit not quite at peak drinking. The fruit extract is impressive and there's excellent overall balance. This is a big, dense wine with outstanding structure. The tannins are noticeable but soft, while the 2007 Redigaffi shows good acidity and nice minerality. A long, consistent finish puts a smile on our faces. This bottle would have benefited from another five years in the cellar.

Review “Bright red. Penetrating perfume of sour red cherry, redcurrant, violet and spicy minerals. Bright and very juicy, with high acidity lifting the floral red berry and cherry flavors, but leaving an almost tart impression. Finishes firm and saline, with lovely length, but could use a little more flesh and sweetness. This lovely, pure sangiovese really needs food to pick up volume and flesh.”
