A blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this offers a powerful and rich opening that exudes enduring tones of black spice, dark fruit, leather and tobacco. The palate has a round, chewy consistency, with polished tannins and loads of concentrated fruit. (Editors' Choice)
#63 -- The Enthusiast 100 List: “Luscious, dark and penetrating, Mediterra delivers a long, velvety texture with sweet flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and plump cherry fruit. It’s a wonderful wine that would pair with pasta, meat or aged cheese.”
“The 2010 Mediterra emerges from the glass with espresso, mocha, blackberries and menthol, all supported by firm yet polished tannins. This is a relatively cool, introspective vintage for the Mediterra, less immediate than is typically the case. The 2010 impresses for its energy and length. Over the last few vintages, Mediterra has staked a compelling claim as one of the best values in Maremma, and Tuscany, for that matter. Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.”
“The 2009 Mediterra comes across as round, sensual and polished, which is probably an advantage for a wine like this that is meant to be enjoyed upon release. Sweetly perfumed notes of black cherries, smoke and licorice wrap around the palate in this polished, inviting wine. Stylistically, I have a preference for the 2010, but both the 2009 and 2010 are beautiful. Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.”
“The 2008 Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Super-ripe dark fruit, blackberries, mocha and espresso are some of the notes that flow from this juicy, inviting red. It is a solid effort in a very challenging year.”
"This blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is a unique wine that shows quality fruit aromas of wild berry and sweet cherries backed by drying mineral, cola and exotic spice. The mouthfeel is excellent with a plush, sweet close."
Very ripe aromas of red cherry, plum, licorice and menthol. Slightly medicinal flavors of dark fruits and licorice offer a plump texture but could use more complexity. Finishes with good length and lift, and an impression of some residual sugar.
The estate's 2007 Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. This positively sparkles on the palate with the essence of crushed rocks, violets, cinnamon and jammy blueberries in a totally seductive expression of Bolgheri. In the last two vintages Mediterra has emerged as one of the finest values in Maremma, a part of Tuscany not exactly known for inexpensive wines.
