“The 2010 Mediterra emerges from the glass with espresso, mocha, blackberries and menthol, all supported by firm yet polished tannins. This is a relatively cool, introspective vintage for the Mediterra, less immediate than is typically the case. The 2010 impresses for its energy and length. Over the last few vintages, Mediterra has staked a compelling claim as one of the best values in Maremma, and Tuscany, for that matter. Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.”
“The 2011 Vermentino SoloSole is striking. Despite the warmth of the year, the 2011 has maintained gorgeous freshness and vibrancy. White flowers, white peaches and mint burst from the glass from this beautifully delineated wine. The SoloSole keeps getting better and better with each vintage.”
“The 2010 Vermentino Solosole possesses gorgeous balance in this vintage. The 2010 is a relatively restrained Solosole bursting with inner energy in its grapefruit, flowers and white peaches. This is a precise, focused style I find highly attractive.”
The 2004 Sondraia (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) is made from the estate's younger vines and is another highly enjoyable wine. Deeply expressive in its suggestions of ripe dark fruit, chocolate, mint, eucalyptus and toasted oak, it presents an engaging personality.
Gorgeous aromas of blackberries, minerals and light vanilla follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a silky, caressing finish. Ultrafine and polished red. Beautiful debut wine from Veneto's Marilisa Allegrini and U.S. importer Leonardo LoCascio.
