The 2007 Dedicato a Walter shows just how great Cabernet Franc can be in Maremma, something that is all the more remarkable here considering these vines were only planted in 2001. Roasted coffee beans, cinnamon, cloves, leather and minerals are layered into a core of rich, exuberant fruit. Here, too, the warmth and radiance of Bolgheri shines through to the engaging, beautifully balanced finish.
The 2007 Sondraia reveals tons of Bolgheri character in its warm, sunny fruit. Espresso, blackberries and French oak meld together in a radiant, expressive red that caresses the palate with layers of ample fruit. This is a gorgeous effort from Poggio al Tesoro and a very classic, representative red from Maremma.
The estate's 2007 Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. This positively sparkles on the palate with the essence of crushed rocks, violets, cinnamon and jammy blueberries in a totally seductive expression of Bolgheri. In the last two vintages Mediterra has emerged as one of the finest values in Maremma, a part of Tuscany not exactly known for inexpensive wines.
The 2007 Vermentino Solo Sole is a silky, generous white loaded with expressive, perfumed fruit supported by an underlying vein of acidity that provides balance and length. For its Vermentino the estate chose a clone originally from Corsica that allows for a late harvest without sacrificing acidity. This unoaked Vermentino offers uncommon richness and depth.
