“Dark-skinned fruit, truffle, fragrant blue power and wild herb aromas are front and center. The structured palate delivers succulent Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and a hint of tobacco alongside the warmth of evident alcohol. Taut, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity lend focused support.”
Aromas of French oak, espresso, dried herb and a floral note lead the nose on this structured red. The palate is still quite primary and tight, showing cranberry, tart cherry, star anise and oak-driven spice alongside firm acidity and assertive, rather grainy tannins that leave a mouth-puckering finish.
This luminous red offers aromas of wild red berry, dark spice, menthol and a whiff of espresso. The ripe, rather straightforward palate offers raspberry, tart cherry, licorice, toast, mocha and tobacco alongside polished tannins.
“ Bright and refreshing, this opens with scents of honeysuckle, jasmine, pear and yellow stone fruit. The round but lively palate offers peach, green apple and a hint of white almond. Fresh acidity lifts the rich flavors.”
“I liked Ceretto's base Barbaresco this vintage more than the vineyard-specific 2012 Barbaresco Asili. This wine shows more heft and overall darkness, but the resulting aromas are not as polished or focused. The bouquet offers black fruit, spice, grilled herb, cola and pressed rose in no particular order. Those dark fruit themes continue to the palate.”
