The 2008 will test the readers’ patience, but it has the stuffing and pedigree to develop into a splendid wine. This is a fabulous showing, especially within the context of the vintage. Today, the 2008 looks to be a great wine in the making. I Sodi di San Niccolò is 85% Sangioveto and 15% Malvasia Nera aged in French oak barrels, 50% new.”
The 2001 I Sodi di San Niccolò flows from the glass with deep layers of ripe dark red fruit. Powerful, incisive tannins provide the backdrop for this structured, towering wine as it continues to grow with air. Despite its size, the 2001 also has tons of detail and nuance. In short, it is a magnificent, harmonious wine that still offers quite a bit of potential for the future.
The 2006 I Sodi di San Niccolo is fabulous. Beautifully delineated aromatics meld into a breathtaking array of dark fruit, crushed rocks, smoke, tar, minerals and flowers in this totally thrilling Tuscan red. The fruit completely saturates the palate, while persistent notes of crushed rocks and all things mineral round things out.
