“I was particularly interested in meeting the family behind the new Basilicata winery Bisceglia. One of their first vintages of Gudarrà Aglianico del Vulture had caught my attention last year, so much so that I included it in my favorite 25 wines under $25. Meeting Mario Bisceglia and his son, Michele, it became clear that heart has much to do with the quality of wine.... I was happy to see that the 2007 [Gudarrà] has been created to benefit from a bit of age. It’s deep hue and garnet color holds spicy black fruit.”
Recommended - The Gudarra is brimming with flavors, well-balanced and smooth-drinking. Its full body carries notes of prune and tar. Despite his depth, it's lively in the glass with a long, lingering and warm finish that hints at the volcanic soils of Mount Vulture, where the vineyards bask in the Basilicata sun.
