Tramin Unterebner

Unterebner Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC bottle image

Wine Description

This wine is not your typical Pinot Grigio. Made from hand-selected grapes from the Unterebnerhof vineyard in Alto Adige, part of the wine (80%) is refined in large oak casks and the remaining is aged in barriques. After seven-eight months of lees contact, the resulting wine is incredibly rich, refined and elegant.

Acclaim
“Bright golden-tinged yellow. Penetrating aromas of apricot, apple and sweet spices have a delicate nuance. Lively and juicy in the mouth, with cinnamon and nutmeg complementing fruit cocktail-like flavors. Finishes classically dry (1.8 g/L residual sugar), long and very smooth with hints of tobacco and honey. Tramin harvested early in 2009, but the wine is remarkably well balanced and smooth (only 5.5 g/L total acidity, but the wine is fresh). Lovely Pinot Grigio that is aging exceptionally well.”
— Ian D’Agata, Mar 2017
The 2009 Pinot Grigio Unterebner emerges from the glass with layers of rich, expressive fruit. The Unterebner is usually much more varietally expressive, but in 2009 it is uncharacteristically lush and almost tropical in its fruit. Roughly 20% of the wine is aged in small French oak barrels, which contribute additional texture and volume.
