Morgante Nero d'Avola

Morgante Nero d'Avola

Wine Description

After accumulating generations of grape-growing expertise, the Morgante family started bottling their own wine under the guidance of Riccardo Cotarella in the mid-1990s. Situated in the western reaches of Sicily, where Nero d’Avola reaches optimal ripeness levels, Morgante has crafted this beautiful 100% estate-grown Nero d'Avola wine.

Acclaim
“The 2019 Nero d’Avola entices, as crushed chalk gives way to dusty dried violets, black currants and hints of smoke. This is fruit-focused and lively in character with energizing acidity and ripe wild berry fruits. It finishes remarkably fresh, while leaving inner rose tones and hints of hard red candies to linger. What a pretty Nero d’Avola.”
— Vinous, Jun 2022
“A round, medium-bodied red, revealing juicy black cherry and black fig fruit as well as light, creamy tannins. Offers appealing hints of violet, vanilla and anise that gain momentum through to the lingering finish.”– (Featured in Savvy Shopper)

About the Vineyard

The vines that source Morgante's Nero d'Avola DOC are grown at high elevation (1,476 - 1,804 feet above seal level). Here, in the southern reaches of westsern Sicily, the landscape is arid and rolling. However, Morgante's position within reach of cool coastal breezes ensures healthy and optimal ripening conditions.
