High Note

Brand Description

Argentina is a country of unique and dramatic landscapes where a melting pot of cultures inspire passion and energy. Music, dance, food, high altitude, alluvial soils and passionate winegrowing—all resonate with this vibrant spirit. This is the terroir that gives birth to High Note.

Born in the Uco Valley with the Revolutionary Spirit of Argentina.

Location of Vineyard

The overall cooler climate in higher elevations of the Uco Valley produce wines with bright acidity and fresh aromatics. Velvety tannins develop with extended hang-time. The grapes for High Note wines are sourced from five vineyards with sandy loam soils, ranging in elevation 3,300 – 5,000 feet above sea level:
- Vista Flores: contributes flavors of spice, red fruits and  minerality
- La Consulta: adds black fruit and mid-palate weight
- Altamira: brings notes of violets to the aroma
- Eugenio Bustos: offers racy acidity and floral notes
- Gualtallary: the highest altitude, brings deep purple color with floral and fruit notes

Winemaking Philosophy

Leopoldo Kuschnaroff hails from a family of farmers, born of Ukrainian immigrants to Argentina. A true son of the Mendoza wine region, he graduated trade school with a degree in winemaking in 1999, followed by a master’s degree in viticulture from the prestigious Cuyo University. His prime philosophy and goal as a winemaker is to make wines reflective of the terroir, a challenge which enables him to experiment with the different microclimates of the Uco Valley, perfecting wine that is truly representative of this region. Leopoldo has been working with the Catena family since 2007, joining the prestigious High Note brand in 2013.

“The 2022 Red Blend (50% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Franc) all from the Uco Valley. Bright purple in hue. The nose offers juicy plum, floral and quince notes against an oaky backdrop. Indulgent and juicy on the palate, the oaky texture and fruit-forward mouthfeel end with an oaky flourish.”

“The 2022 Malbec is from the Uco Valley and was 70% aged in French oak and 30% in American (25% of which was new). A vibrant purple in the glass. The fruit-forward nose brings pronounced aromas of crushed plum with delicate floral hints and black tea. It's indulgent and fruity, with a pleasant, juicy character. The 2022 is a straightforward, flavorful wine notable for its relatively low alcohol content of 13.5%”
