Wine Description

Domaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine. Étienne Grivot and his wife Marielle took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir.

Jean Grivot’s 15.5 hectares spread across 22 appellations with vineyards in the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Besides the three grand crus, there are 8 premier crus including the much lauded Les Beaux Monts and Suchots in Vosne-Romanée. The grapes are completely de-stemmed and fermentation is spontaneous.

Acclaim
“The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very well-defined nose with perfumed red cherry and blackberry fruit, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, lightly spiced, gentle and quite elegant, sporting a dab of cracked black pepper on the finish. Lush 'n lovely.” — Vinous, Dec 2023
(From Les Cruots which is also known as Vignes Blanches). Ripe, fresh and beautifully layered aromas are comprised by notes of plum, black raspberry, anise and spicy jasmine tea. There is outstanding volume to the caressing and seductive but powerful and muscular large scaled flavors that deliver first-class persistence on the moderately austere and superbly textured finish. Like the Clos de Vougeot, this is compact and very firm and a wine that will require patience, but it should be well-worth the wait.”
