Yalumba Rare & Fine The Octavius

Wine Description

Signifying Yalumba’s commitment to Barossa Shiraz, this is a truly individual wine, handcrafted, handmade and matured in fine French oak and Yalumba coopered American octave barrels. These unique barrels, which offered inspiration for the wine’s name, are just one of the many harmonious components in the symphony that is Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz.

Acclaim
"Still evolving but supremely rewarding, with elegant florals and spices married to integrated oak, plummy fruits and a precise finish. Powerful and intriguing."— (Gold)
— Decanter, Dec 2021
"Saturated ruby. Heady aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry liqueur, vanilla and incense, with smoky mineral and exotic spice accents building in the glass. Seamless in texture and deeply concentrated, offering palate-staining black and blue fruit, floral pastille and mocha flavors that turn sweeter with air. At once plush and lively, finishing extremely long and smoky, with repeating dark berry and floral notes and velvety tannins."

Wine Production

A moderate winter lead into a warm, dry spring giving a somewhat sedate start to the growing season. This weather continued into summer until the end of January when 25mm of rain fell. The rain was welcomed and gave the vines the drink they needed to finish off ripening the grapes. The warm days during summer and autumn were mediated by cool nights, leading to great concentration and length of flavor. Matured for 22 Months in 28% new French barriques and hogsheads, balance in older French Barriques, Hogsheads and 1+ year American Octaves.
