Valle Reale Vigneto di Popoli

Vigneto di Popoli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC bottle image

Wine Description

Because of its unique location, Valle Reale has redefined Montepulciano d’Abruzzo: at 1,100+ feet above sea level, Valle Reale’s vineyards are nestled into one of Italy’s most beautiful national parks. This rich wine is made from 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grown in the oldest estate vineyards on soils rich in chalk, clay and pebbles. Harvested by hand in November, the grapes are gently pressed and macerated with the skins for ten days to ensure ideal color concentration and structure.

Acclaim
“Good full ruby. Dark perfumed plum, raspberry, minerals and grilled herbs on the nose. Silky and lush for a 2011, but with no shortage of underlying structure, and both very dense and complex. Finishes with fine tannins and superb precision and minerality. Outstanding, multilayered, long Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. The vines were planted in 1952, and old vines no doubt contribute to this wine’s magic.”
— Vinous, Sep 2018
“Good full ruby. Musky red cherry, raspberry and mocha aromas on the nose are complicated by a very strong note of flint. Rich but suave and fine-grained, a distinctly elegant style of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo offering strawberry tar and mocha flavors plus underlying chocolatey richness. Finishes bright, long and broad, with a light tarry nuance.”
— Ian D’Agata, Aug 2017
