Vigna d'Alfiero means Alfiero's vineyard. Alfiero Carpini, the first land-agent/bailiff in Valdipiatta, had already worked on the estate for 15 years when Mr. Caporali bought it, at the end of the '80s. It was Alfiero who taught Mr. Caporali the history of each vineyard, the secrets of the terroir and the characteristics of the wines. And it was Alfiero who, in 1973, planted a vineyard in a place, about 7.5 acres, called Bossona. That vineyard is now considered Valdipiatta's best vineyard for producing Sangiovese. When Alfiero passed away, Mr Caporali decided to honor his friend's memory producing a wine with the grapes grown in the vineyard Afiero had planted 25 years before and naming this wine with the name of Alfiero. On the label, in a hand drawn picture, you can see Alfiero standing among his vines. A 100% Sangiovese wine, made using high-quality Prugnolo Gentile clones selected by the Consorzio del Vino Nobile. The grapes are grown at very low yields, hand harvested and selected by sorting table. This single-vineyard wine shows true noble character.
A rich, velvety, full-bodied wine, with an intense ruby red color. Notes of wild berry and spice prevail on the nose, followed by subtle citrus hues and violets. Full-flavored, fleshy, and powerful, with tremendous structure and complexity.
An ideal companion for elaborate pasta and rice dishes, red meats, game, and braised dishes, as well as aged cheeses, salamis, and prosciutto.
