Tramin Stoan

Stoan Alto Adige DOC bottle image

Wine Description

The name of this exotic Alto Adige blend refers to the stony soil in which the grapes are grown, which in local German dialect is referred to as "stoan." This aromatic white wine is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer grapes which are blended together and fermented in large oak barrels before being refined an additional seven months before bottling.

Acclaim
“Closed with a glass cork, the 2016 Alto Adige Stoan is a blend of 65% Chardonnay with 20% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Pinot Bianco and 5% Gewürztraminer with an aromatic emphasis on the fragrant varieties. I just love these blended whites from Northern Italy, and Cantina Tramin does a fine job in this cooler vintage. This wine gives it all: fragrance, elegance, texture and long fruity flavors. Bottle production is large (at 55,000 units), and the price tag is more than reasonable. I highly recommend this blended white.”
— Wine Advocate, Aug 2018
“The end of the 2016 growing season saw warm, sunny days and cool nights that offered near-ideal ripening conditions for the chardonnay, sauvignon and pinot blanc, and gerwurztraminer that compose this blend. Its delicate honeysuckle scents and flavors of white peach and honeyed grapefruit garnered unanimous approval from our tasting panel. A hint of spice enlivens the fruit flavors and lingers on the long, balanced finish.” (Year's Best Northeast Italy & Slovenia)
