Rudi Pichler Riesling Terrassen Smaragd

Riesling Terrassen Smaragd bottle image

Wine Description

Smaragd is the Wachau designation for dry late harvest wines, above 12.5% alcohol through natural fermentation.  The best smaragd wines can age well for decades.  Terrassen indicates it is a cuvee of different hillside sites. Old terraces of varied altitudes and orientations and with primitive rock soils make this wine an elegant culinary accompaniment - with its delicate structure, white peach aroma and subtle slate tone.

Acclaim
“Lively bouquet of quince and thyme complicated by a whiff of wet stone. Lean and almost austere, with flavors of persimmon, orange zest and anise, the 2013 Terrassen rides a vibrant wave of acidity on the palate, finishing on oyster shell and a kiss of sweet lime.”
— Vinous, Sep 2015
“Palest gold in the glass, this wine smells of slightly flinty bergamot and other exotic citrus mixed with pear and wet stones. In the mouth, gorgeous exotic citrus flavors retain a bit of the smokiness of the nose with a deep stony minerality. Juicy pink grapefruit lingers in the finish. ( 9/9.5 out of 10)”
