Wine Description

The Pichler family has been making wine in the village of Wösendorf since at least the late 19th century. The original cellar building, more of a small stall than a winery, was purchased in 1884 and their first vineyards were planted in the town of Wosendorf in 1904. The modern winery was built in 2004 near Rudi´s private home. After some initial wanderlust and the pursuit of various other interests – academic and commercial – Rudolf Pichler IV returned to the family winery with a seed of an idea. He had no formal training other than his memories of his grandfather and his instincts for great wine.

Acclaim
“Subdued pear fruit is tightly coiled inside this rich and promising white. For now it has phenolic richness and wonderfully tangy acidity. In time the wine will show the luscious ripeness of this harvest.”
— Wine Enthusiast, May 2014
“Pichler’s 2012 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Kollmutz leads with alkaline and wet stone notes already in the nose, along with piquant, green walnut and struck-flint smokiness – a striking if by no means winsome or welcoming announcement! Formidably dense and compact, this manages to buffer out the bitterness intimated in the nose, and its myriad mineral elements make for a complex finish, in which fresh lime and cucumber serve for welcome juiciness.”
— David Schildknecht, Apr 2014
