Prager Klaus Riesling

Riesling Ried Klaus Smaragd bottle image

Wine Description

Smaragd is the term reserved for the dry, late harvest wines of the Wachau region, which must be above 12.5% alcohol through natural fermentation. Klaus is the cru site from which the grapes are sourced. The Klaus vineyard is considered noble, and has been for centuries, at it is separated from the hill by a road and shrine to St. Urban, the patron saint of wine.

Acclaim
Medium green-yellow. Grapefruit, blood orange, wild mint and passion fruit comprise a fascinating and exotic nose. Similar flavors in the mouth are joined by smoky minerality, pineapple and peach. Racy acidity lends this intense riesling a marvelously succulent quality. The convincing finish goes on for several minutes.
— International Wine Cellar, Apr 2011
On the soft side, with some residual sugar, this is initially a gentle Riesling. Slowly it reveals its minerality, which pushes into the juicy peach and apricot flavors and brings its own salt and flint texture. It is so elegant yet so powerful.
