Predominantly from the adjacent Barnsely vineyard and our Lawson’s vineyard in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley, with the addition of 20% from Dave Eatwell’s densely planted hillside vineyard in the Omaka Valley. A lovely long summer, combined with careful crop management and attention to detail at each step in the vineyards produce delicious grapes, picked in perfect condition.
Each vineyard is harvested separately and gently pressed, the free run juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures, while the pressings are fermented in older French oak barriques and puncheons. Post fermentation, the steel tank components are gently lees stirred to help build texture and complexity. The two components are then blended and bottled.
This Pinot Gris has a straw gold appearance complemented by aromas of pear, nectarine, brioche, and citrus. The palate has a lovely acidity and minerality, with stone fruit and citrus flavors. A hint of sweetness and fine grain phenolics provide structure and weight, giving the wine lovely concentration and length.
