Pago de Valdoneje Joven 2014

The grapes for the Pago de Valdoneje Joven are manually harvested from the clay and sandy soils of the estate's Mencia vines that reach over eighty-five years of age. Fermentation and aging occur in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit-driven characteristics of the wine. An intense ruby red in color with violet reflections, the Joven shows beautifully, with a fresh nose of wild berries, mint, and earthy elements imparted by the Bierzo soils. Firmly structured on the palate, this wine is supported by fine tannins and remarkable balance.

Tasting Notes

Intensive Red color with violets hints.
On the nose it is extremely fresh. Black and red fruits such as blackberries and wild berries; very earthy coming from the Bierzo soils such as roasted notes smoke and liquorice, some hints of balsamic aromas, mint mainly, are also present.
The wine is firmly structured on the palate, with incredible depth and a persistent fruit-driven finish. Perfect balance with very fine tannins.


Food Pairing

A fresh and clean wine, it is delicious on a hot day slightly chilled with grilled meats and grilled vegetables.  It is also wonderful as an aperitif enjoyed with smoked meats and cheeses, Cured beef Carpaccio, lamb with pea, mint and feta dressing, chicken shawarma or haloumi cheese gyro.
