Wine Description

The leading vineyard, Quinta do Corujão, sits at an altitude of 1,640 feet beside Portugal's highest mountain range, Serra da Estrela. The vines in this area are planted in poor granitic soils, forcing their roots to dig deep in search of water and other nutrients. Cool, brisk air graces the vineyards at nightfall, encouraging elevated levels of natural acidity, while the soils impart a refined mineral character to the final wines: a combination that is unmistakably Dão. The trio aims to utilize an organic approach in the vineyards and hone their skills together, as a team, to create wines with true varietal character, unassailable elegance, and a compelling presence that would be difficult to refuse.

Acclaim
“The 2015 Branco is a 70/30 blend of Encruzado and Bical, aged for 10 months in a 60/40 mixture of used and new French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Fresh, piercing and very much emphasizing its acidity, this is impressive for its long and gripping finish, concentration and freshness. There was a touch of flint up front, but that should blow off. The wood is barely noticeable. This is a potential beauty that should age well. It is priced very nice, too.”
— Wine Advocate, Aug 2017
“This is the Dão project of three talented Douro winemakers—Jorge Moreira, Francisco Olazabal and Jorge Serôdio Borges. They work with Encruzado and Bical from a high-elevation site in Serra da Estrela, fermenting and aging it in French oak (30 percent new). There’s a taut peach-skin snap to the flavors, along with a broader orange-pith and chicken-of-the-woods savor. It’s balanced, and an intriguing white to age.”
