Wine Description

Made entirely from Magliocco grapes, Magno Megonio is named after a Roman centurion who was said to be the first to recognize the viticultural promise of the area and owned part of the estate that Librandi owns today.  The family has been studying and experimenting with Magliocco for years, and although many growers have pulled up these vines in favor of planting grapes with more international renown, the Librandis continue their staunch advocacy of this most promising grape variety.

“From the IGT Val di Neto appellation in Calabria, the 2012 Magno Megonio is one of Italy's most interesting expressions of the little-known Magliocco grape. There's a wild and unruly side to the wine with Morello cherry and blackberry preserves followed by a reasonably dark and well concentrated appearance. Sweet spice and tobacco follow in close succession. Soft tannins and alcoholic fruit appear on the slightly sweet finish. Magno Megonio is the wine that brought fame and fortune to Librandi and Calabria on a world scale.”
