Pinot Noir has been grown in Austria for close to two hundred years and is the most successful red grape import from France. Great Austrian Pinot Noir only began to emerge in the last decade with growers like Gernot Heinrich planting the temperamental varietal in top sites. Dorflagen is a young vine Pinot Noir from the gravelly Goldberg vineyard and the loamy Salzberg vineyard, both in close proximity to the Heinrich winery in Gols. Pretty, perfumed and affordable.
Ruby red in color with light, fruity raspberry aromas accompanied by delicate meadow herb flavors. Charming, mouthfilling fruit with a fresh nuance of rhubarb, subtle orange zest underscored by fine sour cherry tones. Good balance with lengthy, drink-enticing acidity.
Pair with fall vegetable lasagna, sesame chicken, or roasted pork belly with rhubarb compote.
